House hunting?

We interrupt this blog for a brief announcement. If I somehow helped you sort out the BPS lottery system, I’d appreciate a little love in return. You see, my family is moving. I assure you -- it’s not because of the school or the school system. Sometimes life just happens. I certainly would not have started this blog if I thought we’d be leaving so soon.

So… we’re selling our house. It’s a great family home -- a 3-bedroom, 3-bath single-family Colonial on a corner lot in Roslindale. We’d stay in it for many years if we could. If you’re shopping for a house, or know someone who is, we’d appreciate your consideration. Please help us spread the word. Here is the MLS listing. (The listing says two bathrooms, but there are really three full bathrooms.)

And here are some of the things that I personally love about our home:
  • Two-car garage. This is key in the winter. No more digging out your car and saving your space!
  • Tons of storage space.
  • Finished attic. (See above bullet) Could also be a fourth bedroom. It has baseboard heat.
  • Pretty stained-glass window in the foyer.
  • Washer and dryer off the kitchen. No more hauling laundry to the basement!
  • Nine beautiful white pine trees that provide ample shade in the summer and mean less snow-shoveling in the winter.
  • Sizeable fenced-in yard. We’ll throw in the sandbox, kiddie picnic table, and play kitchen if you’re interested.
  • Great for a gardener or wanna-be gardener: Two raised beds. Elevated area suitable for container gardening. Two compost bins behind the garage. Raspberry bush, blueberry bush, and a few strawberry plants. Hopefully, some mint will spring up again. The lawn has been au naturale for several years.
  • Finished basement with separate entrance and mudroom. Could potentially be an in-law apartment. For us, it’s a rec room and a place for my husband to retreat when he needs to yell at the Red Sox.
  • A small balcony off the master bedroom’s walk-in closet. Yes, I said walk-in closet.
  • A block away from public transportation and Pleasant Cafe. One-mile walk to Roslindale Square.
  • Last but not least, there are two bottle openers affixed to the exterior. I’m not saying that’s what initially sold us on the house, but it may have swayed us in that direction.
Just to get back on-topic, it’s in the walk zone for five schools, as the assignment system currently stands: the Mozart (4 blocks), the Bates (2 blocks), the Lyndon, the Sumner, and the Conley. The past two families in this house have had good luck in the lottery. The previous owners got into the Lyndon, and we’re at the Mozart. Ultimately, as we all know, it's a roll of the dice, but I hope the good luck will rub off on the next occupants.

If you’re interested, please contact Effie Treon at 617-327-2100 x 101.

Thanks.

Be sure you get the # of bathrooms changed in the MLS listing. Best of luck -- I heard of another family who lost out in the "lottery" and have decided to move as well...BPS shoots itself in the proverbial foot!

Do you mind sending me the address offline. I would like to look up the house as I may be moving. (I have access to Coldwell Banker online.) Thanks and good luck with your move.
